Watson has a proven history of success in retail propane marketing and operations management. Watson has experience with the integration of propane mergers and acquisitions, process design improvement and IT project management. In his new role, Watson is responsible for overseeing all propane gas service operations in the Smoky Mountain region, including P&L performance, growth, safety, customer service and employee development.

With more than 23 years of LP gas service experience, Watson has worked for companies including AmeriGas and Star Gas. He moved back to Georgia and worked as service manager of Star Gas of Stamford, Conn. Most recently, Watson worked as general manager of New England for the US Refined Fuel division of Superior Plus Energy Services. Superior Plus is a fuel oil, gasoline, HVAC and propane marketer. Watson will help further develop ThompsonGas’ propane, distillate and gasoline sales, as well as HVAC eventually, in the Smoky Mountain region.

“We are eager to see the contributions James Watson will make to ThompsonGas,” said President and CEO Randy Thompson. “His skill set and record of accomplishment fit nicely into our strategy to continue growth of the business while maintaining the highest level of customer service.”

Watson has served on the board of the Georgia Propane Gas Association (GPGA), including serving as president in 2009. He worked closely with state officials to enhance and improve the state’s training requirements for propane marketers to improve professional standards in the industry. He also serves as chapter vice president of Guitars Not Guns, a young mentoring organization that provides free music education and guitars to disadvantaged youth.
