Credits, Rebates & Incentives When Building A Propane Home

As a homebuilder, you understand the importance of always keeping the best interest of your homebuyers in mind. Today’s new homeowners are very well educated, specifically when it comes to smart, energy efficient decisions. They deserve sustainable energy choices that will keep their family comfortable while keeping their checkbook in the black.

More and more families are interested in utilizing home propane, not only because it is convenient, cost-effective and safe, but this affordable alternative fuel is also environmentally friendly. From energy-efficient tankless water heaters to stainless steel appliances, many homebuilders and buyers are reaping the incredible benefits available when it comes to using propane over electricity, natural gas or oil.

If you’re a builder or developer, propane can help you build and market the kind of energy-efficient homes that buyers love. Our propane service can even qualify builders and contractors, plus their homeowners, for special tax incentives. What type of credits and incentives are available? We’re glad you asked!

Propane Business Tax Credit

Up to $2,000 applies to builders, contractors or developers who build or significantly renovate homes that reduce heating and cooling energy consumption by 50%. High-efficiency propane home heating and tankless water heaters meet these criteria.

Individual Tax Credit

Personal tax credit for homeowners installing highly efficient space and water-heating equipment in the taxpayer’s personal residence. To qualify, propane furnaces and boilers must meet an annual fuel use efficiency of 95 or higher. The credit covers costs up to $150. Propane water heaters must have an energy factor of at least 0.82 or a thermal efficiency of at least 90%. Water heaters are eligible for a credit of up to $300. The personal tax credit is capped at $500.

Other Propane Incentives

There are several other incentives available for building with high-efficiency propane services. The Energy-Efficient Commercial Buildings Tax Deduction, for example, provides a tax deduction of up to $1.80 per square foot to commercial building owners or tenants who reduce the building’s total energy and power cost by at least 50%.
